AFI FEST General Information

AFI FEST is the longest-running film festival in Los Angeles and one of the most influential film festivals in North America. Celebrating 20 years in 2006, the Festival emerged from FILMEX, LA's first film festival, still celebrated for the exceptional range of films it brought to light. Spanning 10 days each November, AFI FEST features a rich slate of films from emerging filmmakers, nightly red-carpet gala premieres and global showcases of the latest work from the great film masters. AFI FEST continues to connect audiences to the best in contemporary cinema, all right in the heart of Hollywood.

In 2005, with 129 films from 44 countries, AFI FEST was host to 522 guests from 35 countries. More than 60,000 attendees assembled at the Rooftop Village, where a hip and centralized pass-only Cinema Lounge, independent box office and The LOFT--AFI FEST's independently operated party and reception space--created special environments for guests to interact. Screenings are held at the state-of-the-art ArcLight Hollywood theaters and the historic Cinerama Dome.

The American Film Market (AFM), November 1 - 9, is the market partner of AFI FEST presented by Audi. Together, AFI FEST and AFM provide the film industry with the only concurrent festival / market event in North America. As the largest motion picture trade event in the world, AFM draws the industry's leaders from around the globe. Each year over 8,000 attendees converge on Santa Monica for deal making, screenings, seminars, networking and parties. In just eight days, more than $800 million in motion picture production deals will be closed on both completed films and those that haven't yet started shooting.

AFI FEST provides a significant US platform for both national and international cinema as the awards season kick-off event. Since 2004, films recognized internationally with nominations and awards include: WALK THE LINE, TRANSAMERICA, TSOTSI, SOPHIE SCHOLL, THE SEA INSIDE, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, HOTEL RWANDA, A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT and BAD EDUCATION.
