Behind The Lens Radio Show – 02/18/2019

An action-packed BEHIND THE LENS thanks to special guest, writer/director SAM FRIEDLANDER, plus, our prerecorded exclusive interviews with WWE SUPERSTAR PAIGE and actor/writer/comedian NICK FROST.

First up, take a listen to our exclusive interviews with WWE SUPERSTAR PAIGE and NICK FROST talking about FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY.  At age 26, already an icon and legend in the wrestling world, Paige’s story – and that of her wrestling family, “Rowdy” Ricky Knight, Zak Knight and mom Julia Knight – is brought to the big screen thanks to Executive Producer Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and writer/director Stephen Merchant.  Listen as Paige talks about seeing her story on the big screen for the first time, a life of wrestling and life after wrestling (she retired from in-ring competition due to repeated neck injuries and surgeries).  She is a joy!  Then NICK FROST talk about being cast as “Rowdy” Ricky Knight, his own love of wrestling, his responsibilities as an actor in setting the tone and facilitating the director when on set (even when the director is a longtime friend), and more!  As you will hear, Paige and Nick are both a lot of fun.

At the halfway point of the show, writer/director SAM FRIEDLANDER is live talking about his hilarious new film, BABYSPLITTERS.  Already a fan of Sam’s work thanks to his first directorial effort with “Lary Gaye: Renegade Male Flight Attendant”, BABYSPLITTERS is Sam’s first crack at both writing and directing a film (and he is largely successful).  Following the world premiere at Santa Barbara International Film Festival at which the film won the Jury Prize and was well-received by critics and public alike, Sam talks with us about the inception of and journey of BABYSPLITTERS and what’s next for the film.  One of the most interesting aspects of our discussion revolves around finding the balance between his “day job” as a television producer and that of independent filmmaker creating his own works.  Sam gives great insight into the benefits of his television producing work when applied to writing/directing/producing a film.  But before some of you filmmakers out there get too excited, even a wealth of television producing experience does not guarantee help with financing an indie film.
