Academy voters and the world were treated to an early Oscar surprise when nominations were announced Monday morning and the name “Michael Shannon” was announced as a nominee for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in NOCTURNAL ANIMALS. Not considered to be one of the category’s frontrunners, Shannon’s nomination is one of the biggest surprises to emerge with the announcements. Previously nominated in this same category in 2008 for his performance in “Revolutionary Road”, Shannon was just as thrilled the second time around, if not more so, and had this to say on learning of his nomination:
“I am thrilled! Loved making this film. I would work with Tom Ford anytime, anywhere. Jake Gyllenhaal and Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Karl Glusman made it easy for me. Nice to get some good news in the midst of all the carnage, so to speak.”
