As the morning progresses, more reactions are coming in from Oscar nominees, not the least of which are from two favorites of mine – Production Designer Jack Fisk and Cinematographer Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki – for their work on THE REVENANT.
Two-time Oscar Nominee Fisk, who shares this nomination for Best Achievement in Production Design with Hamish Purdy, kept his feelings short and sweet:
The Canadian winter seems a lot warmer today.

One of the closest races leading up to the nominations announcements today has been with the category of cinematography. One of the most outstanding years in the history of film for cinematography, this year saw technological visual and emotional boundaries pushed on multiple levels, while cinema’s golden age graced the present with the lensing of Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight” and the work of Rob Richardson. Picking up his eighth Academy Award Nomination for Best Achievement in Cinematography is THE REVENANT’s, Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki, who had this to say this morning:
Going on this adventure with Alejandro and the team was truly one of the most amazing, challenging, interesting experiences of my life. It’s a great honor to be recognized by the Academy, especially amongst such a talented group of cinematographers.
— Emmanuel Lubezki, Achievement in Cinematography
Two hotly contested categories with the work of each nominee as wonderful as the next, these are times when each nominee in both categories should be given Oscar gold.
