Film critic debbie elias spoke with screenwriter/producer/actor LUKE BARNETT and producer/actor TANNER THOMASON in this exclusive interview talking all things FAITH BA$ED. Take a listen as we talk all things FAITH BA$ED!
Directed by Vincent Masciale and written by Luke Barnett, FAITH BA$ED is laugh out loud funny, filled with friendship, positivity, and fun.
Starring Luke Barnett, Tanner Thomason, Lance Reddick, Jason Alexander, Margaret Cho, David Koechner, Danny Woodburn, and Richard Riehle, FAITH BA$ED is the story of two friends, Luke and Tanner, who set out to make some easy money by making their own faith-based movie; because after all, don’t all faith-based movies make tons of money? Needless to say, their efforts make for hilarious comedic fodder.
Driven by the real-life friendship and filmmaking collaboration of Luke and Tanner and director Vincent Masciale, FAITH BA$ED very keenly uses the core tenants and philosophies of Christianity but turns it on its head with subtle personal examinations and journies of individuals, of groups, of families, of friends, of people coming together. There is no preaching or religious exposition. Philosophies of kindness and charity and fun are infused into the characters and into the story while poking fun at the trappings of religion, through music, through really good coffee and cookies, and good ol’ laughter.
Solid production values, most notably that of cinematographer Will Stone and production designers Andrew Kim and Frida R. Oliva, elevate the film, while composer Dustin Morgan brings it all together with a peppy upbeat score. Scene stealing though is the song “I Hung A Cross for Jesus” performed by Lambsong which, thanks to Stone’s lensing and smart editing by J. Patrick Southern, will have you rolling with laughter.
