In this exclusive interview, writer/Director ALBERTO VAZQUEZ discusses the visually stunning and thematically powerful animated fever dream that is UNICORN WARS. (Conducted through an interpreter.) An interview in which we have more fun than should ever be allowed!
An acclaimed comic book artist and filmmaker, Alberto has three Goya Awards to his credit for his animated films. His most famous work is the animated feature, “Birdboy: The Forgotten Children” based on his own graphic novel. I didn’t think Alberto could top the wonder of “Birdboy”, but he does just that with UNICORN WARS, an adult animated allegorical film about a bloody war between teddy bears and unicorns.
SYNOPSIS: “In Unicorn Wars, filmmaker Alberto Vázquez resorts to animated fantasy to ponder over the origin of evil. Two brothers – Azulín and Gordi – along with a group of new recruits without experience, are sent on a dangerous mission to save the Magic Forest from the unicorns that represent a threat for the security of their people. Will the little bears be up to the challenge?”
An absolute “must see” film, this exclusive interview with ALBERTO VAZQUEZ is a “must hear” as we delve into everything UNICORN WARS as Alberto combines drama and dark humor in this allegorical exploration of man and his relationship with nature. From story and character (bears are male and unicorns are female) to themes of greed, religion, power, absurdity of war, the environment and even pure evil, Alberto discusses all and the thematic tapestry of the film which is brought to life with some of the most incredible and powerful animated visuals. Going in-depth into his process of blending animation styles, use of color, story and visual structuring, and more, Alberto is a passionate and joyous filmmaker
