The oh-so-talented and oh-so-fun ANDY FICKMAN talks about his new film ONE TRUE LOVES in this exclusive interview.
Starring Simu Liu, Luke Bracey, and Phillipa Soo, ONE TRUE LOVES is a tale filled with love, heartache, and happiness that is sweet, sentimental, and poignant as Emma (Soo) marries the love of her life Jesse (Bracey) only to lose him to a tragic accident a year later. But as time passes, she reconnects with her childhood best friend Sam (Liu) and falls deeply in love with him. But as Emma readies for a future with Sam, Jesse suddenly appears. How do you choose between the two loves of your life?
Based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, under Andy Fickman’s sure hand and eye for attention to detail, we are taken on Emma’s journey with her two loves, a journey between past and present which is expertly structured through Jeff Freeman’s editing as well as attention to costume and Phillipa Soo’s hairstyles.
Reteaming with cinematographer Greg Gardiner, Andy keeps the visual tonal bandwidth light and hopeful while showcasing the beautiful North Carolina location substituting for Acton, Massachusetts and giving us a warm familial emotional tone. Also working again with composer Nathan Wang, the score serves as a beautiful undercurrent to love and family while “feeling” Emma’s heart.
