An exclusive fun-filled and engaging conversation with writer/director CONOR McMAHON talking about vampires, practical horror effects, comedic beats, blood spray and spurt, and letting the right one in with LET THE WRONG ONE IN!
And I thought the trailer was hilariously silly ridiculous fun! The entire film is an endless stream of fun and vampires while still providing some wonderful thematic elements on growing up, taking responsibility, making life choices, and of course, sibling rivalry…especially when one is a vampire.
SYNOPSIS: LET THE WRONG ONE IN follows young supermarket worker Matt, who is a little too nice for his own good. When he discovers that his older, estranged brother Deco has turned into a vampire, he’s faced with a dilemma: Will he risk his own life to help his sibling? Will blood be thicker than water? Or will he stake him before he spreads the vampyric infection further?
Written and Directed by CONOR McMAHON, LET THE WRONG ONE IN stars Karl Rice and Eoin Duffy as brothers Matt and Deco, respectively. Joining the fun is none other than Anthony Stewart Head. Best known as “Giles” in Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, here he stars as Henry, a “doctor” and taxi driver who specializes in a side hustle of vampire slaying. Also on hand are Hilda Fay and Mary Murray.
Biting into LET THE WRONG ONE IN, Conor talks about his love of horror comedies and the genesis of this film which all started with wanting to have a vampire comedy set in Dublin, particularly since Dublin is the birthplace of Bram Stoker, the creator of the legendary “Dracula.” Sinking his teeth deeper into the “making of” LET THE WRONG ONE IN, Conor goes in-depth about designing the cinematography with his cinematographer Michael Lavelle with in-camera effects and color saturation and lighting being key, finding the perfect fast and funny pacing with editor Brian Philip Davis, bringing to life brutal kills, burning flesh, blood spurt, blood spray, and blood, blood and more blood, casting challenges and the importance of chemistry between Karl Rice and Eoin Duffy in bringing the brotherly love of Matt and Deco to the forefront, challenges of shooting certain crowd scenes during the pandemic, and surprisingly, the benefits of delayed filming due to pandemic lockdown (the production was shut down one day before filming was to begin), and so much more.
