In this exclusive interview, director NIMROD ANTAL dives deep into the making of the high-octane white-knuckler RETRIBUTION. This is classic Neeson and NIMROD ANTAL takes us along for the ride – literally.
SYNOPSIS: “In this ticking-clock thriller of redemption and revenge, Matt Turner (Liam Neeson) begins a high-speed chase across Berlin to complete a specific series of tasks after a mysterious caller puts a bomb under his car seat. With Matt’s kids trapped in the back seat and a bomb that will explode if they get out of the car, a normal commute becomes a twisted game of life or death as Matt follows the stranger’s increasingly dangerous instructions in a race against time to save his family.”
Directed by NIMROD ANTAL with script by Christopher Salmanpour based on the film “El Desconocido” written by Alberto Marini, RETRIBUTION stars Liam Neeson, Matthew Modine, Embeth Davidtz, Jack Champion, Lilly Aspell, and Noma Dumezweni.
On top of Neeson’s terror-fraught performance and breakout performances of Aspell and Champion, standout in RETRIBUTION is the cinematography of Flavio Martinez Labiano and together with Nimrod, the pair craft some textured visual grammar to deliver powerful visual and emotional tonal bandwidth. And let me tell you, shooting a film with the bulk of the performances inside a car is not an easy feat yet Labiano succeeds brilliantly with his lensing. Adding to the excellence of the lensing and performances is the work of editor Steve Mirkovich who ratchets up the tension beyond the thrills and chills of an edge-of-your-seat E-ticket ride.
An interesting conversation with NIMROD ANTAL discussing the logistics and thematics of the making of RETRIBUTION and the magic of Liam Neeson.
