An in-depth conversation with writer, director, actor, stand-up comedian, and naturist aka nudist TIM CHIZMAR talking about his new film THE NUDELS OF NUDELAND.
The NUDELS OF NUDELAND is not something you’ll find popping up on streaming services or in theatres every day. Why? Because everyone is naked; well, almost everyone. One person stays clothed which is part of the film’s humor, and then there’s a reverse streaker. This is Tim’s ode to naturists and a celebration of all things naked!
Starring Tim as “Tim”, a loud and proud nudist in America who meets a quiet and religious young woman from Mexico named Lucz Padilla who is also a nudist, THE NUDELS OF NUDELAND find Tim and Lucz each deported to the country of Nudeland where they can live their dream of nakedness. Needless to say, this may be a match made in heaven once the two connect, but are they truly “free”? Societal mores continually haunt them in their nightmares as they try to get rid of the mental baggage that has cloaked them in society.
The film’s premise is fun and thanks to Tim’s performance is funny, but one man does not a film make, and given that the cast is comprised of practicing nudists, do not look for award-winning performances. Fun, yes, definitely fun thanks to performances by Juliana Acosta who plays Lucz, Julie Antti who is a scream as Barb Wire, Jeremiah Benjamin as Mondo Man, noted character actor Al Burke as D. Mann, and Joe Filippone as Kyle Vanderputten. The antics of each character and their personas are diverse and engaging as Tim pushes the envelope with creativity and fun-filled antics. Very tongue-in-cheek dialogue and set-ups, even so far as to include “travel commercials” within the story that focus on travel or relocation to Nudeland with endorsements from the likes of nudists “Vladimir Lennon”, “Pierre Mustache”, and “Dr. Benjamin Franklin”.
Cinematographer and editor Corky Stanton, who is also one of the Nudels, keeps things light and bright with minimal interiors, and the bulk of the film taking place outdoors under a beautiful sun and blue blue sky at Arroyo del Sol in Pasadena.
As you will hear in this exclusive interview, TIM CHIZMAR is beyond engaging. A best-selling author, noted speaker, stand-up comedian, actor, and proud nudist, Tim is enthusiastic, excited, and passionate about the naturist lifestyle and THE NUDELS OF NUDELAND. We dive deep into “the making of” a film like this and its inherent challenges, one being comedic timing within the editing and the other being sound, as well as crafting the in-film commercials which are some of the really humorous highlights. Tim also opened up about lessons learned with this production that he can implement in his myriad of other projects, and so much more. The one thing we failed to discuss, however, was how much of the budget went for sunblock!
