Comedian, actor, writer, film producer and rapper. Mike Epps does it all. Since starting out as part of the “Def Comedy Jam” tour some 20+ years ago, Epps has successfully transitioned to the big screen and small screen, both in front of and behind the camera. Known best for his comedy stylings in stand-up and on screen, Epps broke his own mold when he appeared in “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” and “Resident Evil: Extinction” before impressing critics and fans alike with a dark dramatic turn as the antagonist “Satin” in “Sparkle.” But Epps always comes back to comedy and does so to hilarious result in Deon Taylor’s MEET THE BLACKS.
A no-holds barred, off-color, politically incorrect, irreverent, genre mash-up parody of “The Purge” and decades of some of the best horror films cinema has to offer, Epps stars as Carl Black, a man who wants nothing more than a better life for his family than that in the hood off Chicago. So, when he comes into some money, he moves them to Beverly Hills to a nice, safe, gated community. But Carl picked a bad time to move as the Blacks arrive on the day of the annual purge, when crime is legal for twelve hours. And by the way, the Blacks are the only black family in the neighborhood.
Film critic debbie lynn elias sat down with Mike Epps for this exclusive interview talking not only MEET THE BLACKS, but Mike’s thoughts on acting, producing and, of course, what would he purge on given the chance.
Take a listen. . .but be warned, some of the language gets as graphic and off-color as the dialogue and comedy of MEET THE BLACKS!
NOTE: Graphic, off-color language during the interview.
