It seems that everyone has a memory and love of the Muppets – including Rob Lowe. I recently spoke with Rob about his latest film I Melt With You, which just happened to be the same weekend the Muppets – Miss Piggy, Kermit and Walter – were doing press for their new movie The Muppets, and Elmo was promoting his documentary, Being Elmo. Needless to say, before Rob and I could talk about his film, we had to talk about what the whole world has been waiting for – the return of the Muppets.
How are you?
Good to see you again. Been a long time.
I know. I know. We meet a-gain.
You‘ve got a lot to live up to today. I spent yesterday with Miss Piggy, Kermit, Walter and Elmo. It‘s gonna be tough. [laughing]
And are they as witty in person as they are on screen?
Very much so.
I want to do a new reality show. And the reality show is Actors Switching Junkets. So right now the Muppets would have to come up here and theyfd have to talk about I Melt With You and we’d have to go down and talk about The Muppets movie.
And do a song and dance, which we all know you can do.
Which I can do! But I draw the line with puppets.
But don‘t call them puppets.
What do you call them?
Muppets.
Just Muppets?
They‘re very particular.
That is so genius that you got to do that [talk to the Muppets]. How fun would that be? I was on the set of the original Muppet Movie, the very first one where they did Rainbow Connection.
And they do it in this movie, too.
They do not! [Wide eyed gasp!] Is it killer?
It is pure tears watching. You‘re smiling but you‘re crying when you watch it.
Rainbow Connection is like waterboarding. It should be outlawed at The Hague for cruel and unusual punishment. It like kills you.

Needless to say, I think the Muppets can count on Rob Lowe to be in attendance this weekend when The Muppets opens in theatres nationwide….
