SHARON CALAHAN talks the cinematography of THE GOOD DINOSAUR: Interview Exclusive

For landscape painter and cinematographer Sharon Calahan, there is nothing more beautiful than the light and color found in “God’s Country” right here in the United States. Renowned for her paintings of the Snake River, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and Dakota regions, it’s no surprise then when Pixar and director Peter Sohn decided to make an outdoor movie, with dinosaurs, and set in that now fossil-rich region, that they headed straight for one of their Pixar treasures, Sharon Calahan.

The beauty that Sharon gives this film – and which is carried through by all departments – is guided by her eye and her heart. The whole look, the root of this film, its genesis and beyond, is Sharon’s imagery, her paintings. THE GOOD DINOSAUR would not have the breathtaking majesty and delicate beauty that it holds without her.

On October 2, 2015, I sat down with Sharon Calahan at Pixar for this exclusive interview to talk all about THE GOOD DINOSAUR and “painting with light” for this magnificent animated film.
