On Thursday, February 7 at 10:30 AM ET/7:30 AM PT, the galactic legend, William Shatner, will be speaking with Canadian Space Agency Astronaut, Chris Hadfield, who is aboard the International Space Station circling the Earth. An exchange between the two Canadians began via Twitter in January. Social media, including tweets and posts from space, play an important part in connecting both CSA and NASA with the public and expanding awareness of the agencies and space exploration. This latest conversation will have Hadfield on video and Shatner on the phone and will take place at the CSA in front of an audience of “space tweeps”. In addition to speaking with Shatner, Hadfield will also take real-time questions from the audience.
During an exclusive 1:1 interview with Shatner earlier this week, being a “space geek and tweep” myself, I took the opportunity to speak with the beloved fictional former captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise a.k.a. James T. Kirk about the upcoming communication and what sounds like a possible Vulcan mind meld through space.
“I’ll be speaking to a Canadian astronaut who’s looking down on Earth and I will be asking him what kind of profound thoughts he has. I am going to use the opportunity – I did an interview show for 3 years on Bio Channel and I had the best time probing because I had time to do it and I only have ten minutes with him – probing elemental issues in their soul. I want to avoid ‘what are you doing next’ or ‘what are you publicizing’, as you are doing yourself. I’m going to try to quickly and efficiently get to what he is seeing and what does it mean.”
