Featuring special guest: BILL HUTTON and Exclusive Interview (pre-recorded) with JOHN RIDLEY.
BEHIND THE LENS continues the countdown to the final gala performance of S.T.A.G.E. LA, this week with special guest, Tony nominee and Broadway star, BILL HUTTON. Bill joins us live at the 15-minute mark talking about not only the upcoming finale show on May 13th at the Saban Theatre, but memories of shows past and whom he is most anxious to see perform at this year’s gala. Bill was one of the few, along with Carole Cook, who appeared in the very first S.T.A.G.E. LA show 33 years ago.
But before we get to Bill Hutton, take a listen to an extended excerpt of film critic debbie elias’ exclusive interview with KEN MARINO who makes his feature directorial debut with the hilarious (and dare we say, one of the funniest films of the year) HOW TO BE A LATIN LOVER starring Eugenio Derbez! Filmmakers will appreciate Ken’s candor as he talks about working with cinematographer John Bailey and designing the visual design and overall tonal bandwith of the film.
The last half of the show can be described as nothing short of powerful as you’ll hear in its entirety, debbie’s exclusive interview with Oscar winner JOHN RIDLEY as he talks about the landmark documentary, LET IT FALL: LOS ANGELES 1982-1992. Unable to join BTL live due to shooting commitments on a new project, John graciously agreed to do a pre-recorded interview for this show. With both a theatrical version (at 2 hrs 25 minutes) and a 92-minute version which aired on ABC on April 29th, the 25th anniversary of the Los Angeles riots which broke out after the Rodney King verdict and Reginald Denny beating, this interview is a “must listen” and the documentary a “must see”.
