Behind The Lens Radio Show – 06/11/2018

It’s a pretty “incredible” episode of BEHIND THE LENS this week thanks to WILL McFADDEN, MICHAEL DUNAWAY, and, of course, director Brad Bird and the cast of THE INCREDIBLES 2!

First up, take a listen as we talk about INCREDIBLES 2!  And let’s just cut to the chase – INCREDIBLES 2 is BEYOND incredible!  Exciting, engaging and fun from beginning to end, hear what Holly Hunter has to say at the recent press conference about character role reversal and character revelation, how Samuel L. Jackson turns talk to the Avengers and MCU, while director Brad Bird talks Ralph Eggleston and the beautiful mid-century production design of the film, not to mention how Eggleston’s designs and expertise altered Bird’s vision of the film.

And welcome to writer/director/actor MICHAEL DUNAWAY who is on hand talking about his directorial feature SIX  L.A. LOVE STORIES.  Exuberant and enthusiastic, Michael’s energy is captured within every frame of the film.  Listen as we talk casting and the benefit of accomplished “besties” (Beth Grant and Stephen Tobolowsky are fabulously funny, while Matthew Lillard and Carrie Preston bring into play stirring emotional gravitas.  And Peter Bogdanovich!) and the cinematographic storytelling thanks to the light touch of cinematographer Elle Schneider.  Plus, Director Michael talks about actor Michael as Dunaway is a featured character in the film.  And you’ll hear how Michael did it all in SIX DAYS of shooting and a multiplicity of locations!  Here’s a hint – dedicated seasoned veteran actors and collaboration.

Then actor turned first-time writer/director, WILL McFADDEN talks about his feature directorial narrative DOUBTING THOMAS.  Making its world premiere at Dances With Films on June 12 at 7:15pm, DOUBTING THOMAS is inspired by true events and takes us into some very timely and topical discussions about racism, relationships, and parenting.  Thoughtful in his filmmaking process and in story development, listen as Will talks about the benefit of being an actor turned director – and directing himself in the film, not to mention the importance of collaboration and at times handing the reins of trust to your DP or First Assistant Director.
