BEHIND THE LENS – 05/21/2018 – SHOW #168 (VIDEO)

Featuring special guests: BILL HOLDERMAN, ERIN SIMMS, and MIKE ROMA.

This episode of BEHIND THE LENS is a real page-turner as we talk BOOK CLUB, DATING MY MOTHER, and SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY.

After a welcome from everyone’s favorite Wookie, take a listen as RON HOWARD talks about various aspects of stepping into the STAR WARS galaxy and bringing SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY to life. Some interesting insight into tackling the galaxy, coming into the project late, casting his brother Clint (a must for most Ron Howard films), and visual effects with discussion on CGI vs in-camera action.

Then our first guest of the day, writer/director MIKE ROMA joins us live talking about his new rom-com DATING MY MOTHER. From the germ of an idea to creating the story to casting to developing the visual and emotional tonal bandwidth, this first-time feature director opens up about everything involved in his filmmaking process.

At the midpoint of the show, get ready to really have some fun as we welcome BOOK CLUB writer/director/producer BILL HOLDERMAN and co-writer/producer ERIN SIMMS! You’ll love (as much as I did) hearing them talk about bringing this story to the big screen, as well as working with one of the most legendary casts of all time – JANE FONDA, CANDICE BERGEN, DIANE KEATON, MARY STEENBURGEN, RICHARD DREYFUSS, ED BEGLEY JR, DON JOHNSON, CRAIG T NELSON, and one of the hottest leading men on the big screen today, ANDY GARCIA! (Andy’s got MAMMA MIA HERE WE GO AGAIN this summer) Holderman, a longtime producer with Robert Redford as well as screenwriter for “A Walk In The Woods” starring Redford and Nick Nolte, makes his directorial debut with BOOK CLUB. Listen as we dive in with discussions on filming locations, specific lighting and lensing choices (wide, mid, close-up), financing, and of course, obtaining rights for usage of E.L. James’ “50 Shades of Grey” trilogy. And did I mention, Bill and Erin both gave their mothers the 50 Shades book which was the impetus for BOOK CLUB?
