And the winners of the inaugural HCA TV AWARDS are. . .

 

 

Sunday, August 29, 2021 (Los Angeles, CA) -– The Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) announced tonight the winners of the inaugural HCA TV Awards. Leading the charge is Apple TV+’s TED LASSO with four awards, including Best Streaming Series – Comedy, Best Actor in a Streaming Series – Comedy, Best Supporting Actor in a Streaming Series – Comedy, and Best Supporting Actress in a Streaming Series -Comedy.  Netflix’s THE CROWN scores three wins with Best Actor in a Streaming Series – Drama, Best Actress in a Streaming Series – Drama, and Best Supporting Actress in a Streaming Series, Drama, while Disney’s acclaimed and beloved THE MANDALORIAN picked up the award for Best Streaming Series – Drama.  Freeform’s CRUEL SUMMER was named Best Cable Series.  NBC’s NEW AMSTERDAM and YOUNG ROCK were named Best Broadcast Network Series – Drama and Best Broadcast Network Series – Comedy, respectivelySYFY’s RESIDENT ALIEN also received top-honors as Best Cable Series – Comedy.

The HCA also bestowed Honorary Awards including the “Legacy Award” presented to Cobra Kai, the “Spotlight Award” presented to Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, the “Impact Award” presented to New Amsterdam, the “Pop Culture Icon Award” presented to Tom Ellis, the “TV Icon Award” to Marta Kauffman and the “Virtuoso Award” presented to Bo Burnham.

“All of the nominees that we celebrated and honored tonight are amongst some of the best in television history,” notes HCA Chairman Scott Menzel. “While these past 17 months have been incredibly difficult for many of us, television has once again become our best friend. Series like Ted LassoHacks, and Young Rock provided us with a sense of joy and happiness during these troubled times. Dramatic series such as New AmsterdamLovecraft Countryand Pose were as entertaining as they were educational. These are only a few of the shows that were nominated, but it is so inspiring to see all of these passionate stories being told from diverse storytellers that aren’t afraid to touch upon timely issues including racism, COVID-19, and LGBTIQ rights.
