IMR International has announced that they will be handling foreign sales on multi award-winning director Jacques Audiard’s (Dheepan, Rust and Bone, A Prophet) The Sisters Brothers at the upcoming Cannes International Film Festival. Written by Audiard and Thomas Bidegain, based on the best-selling novel by Patrick deWitt, The Sisters Brothers stars Academy Award® nominated Joaquin Phoenix (Inherent Vice, Her, Walk the Line), Academy Award® nominated John C. Reilly (The Little Hours, The Lobster, Chicago), Golden Globe nominated Riz Ahmed (Rogue One, Nightcrawler, “Girls”), and Academy Award® nominated Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Nocturnal Animals, Everest).
The story follows the infamous Sisters Brothers, known and feared far and wide during the Gold Rush. Their well-deserved reputation hides two very different men. Dangerously magnetic Charlie (Phoenix) enjoys killing while a troubled and reflective Eli (Reilly) yearns for an easier life. Through their differences, they remain inseparable. Now their mysterious and ruthless employer, Commodore, has tasked his scout John Morris (Gyllenhaal) with capturing and holding visionary inventor Hermann K. Warm (Ahmed) for the brothers. This leads Morris to an unlikely alliance with his idealistic prey, setting the stage for this violent, existential odyssey. Principal photography will commence in Spain and Romania next month.
IMR is also handling sales on Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here starring Joaquin Phoenix, and Taylor Sheridan’s Wind River starring Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen, both of which are part of the official Cannes Film Festival line-up.
