As “intimated” to me by FROZEN director Chris Buck and producer Peter Del Vecho two weeks ago during an exclusive interview with the filmmakers, FROZEN 2 is now a reality. Although the box office clearly demanded a sequel, when I spoke with the duo, official decisions had not yet been made public by the Mouse House, but for giving the world an extended wintery wonderland of flurries and “snowgies” with the upcoming short, FROZEN FEVER, opening in front of the much-anticipated CINDERELLA. But, all good things come to those who wait and as Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced today, the wait is over.
Announced today at Disney’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders this morning by Bob Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company; John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios; and actor Josh Gad, who provides the voice of Olaf from FROZEN, there’s more winter weather ahead as FROZEN 2 is officially in development at Walt Disney Animation Studios with directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee and producer Peter Del Vecho, the Oscar®-winning filmmaking team behind FROZEN.
“We enjoyed making Frozen Fever so much and being back in that world with those characters,” said John Lasseter. “Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.”
As Del Vecho, Buck and Lee are currently focusing on overseeing and lending a guiding eye to the Broadway musical adaptation of FROZEN, a release date and production details for FROZEN 2 have yet to be announced.
