Based on the hit play by Sasa Anocic, COWBOYS is adapted for the screen by writer/director Tomislav Mrsic. The story of eight outsiders who try to create a theatrical production while breaking every rule of theatre craft, COWBOYS is told through the eyes of Sasha, a relatively successful theater director who returns from the big city to his home town without a clear notion of what that change might bring, leaving behind his career to restart the neglected local theater. With the town given government money for the arts and theatre, it is at the request of the mayor and Sasha’s old colleagues that he is asked to help the town. The first problem arises when the town has no trained actors and open auditions bring out a scant assortment of locals. But it’s these cast of amateur characters who breathe life into their little theatrical production as they find the one common theme to which they all relate and enjoy: the Hollywood Western.
