Adams, director Deon Taylor explores the dividing lines of race, family and the hate that fuels those lines with an intensity that at times is almost overwhelming with explosive emotion with SUPREMACY.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-2.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-IgAcaueO\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-10771\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-2-400x266.jpg\" alt=\"supremacy - 2\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-2-400x266.jpg 400w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-2.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Garrett Tully, a member of the Aryan Brotherhood, had just been released from the maximum security Pelican Bay State Prison not 15 hours earlier when he kills a state trooper.\u00a0 Now a fugitive and on the run, with the help of Doreen, a friend to the Brotherhood, the two go into hiding by breaking into what they believe is an empty home.\u00a0 On the contrary, this is the home of the Walker family who, as luck would have it, are the only black family in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>Taking the family hostage, it falls on Mr. Walker to convince Tully and Doreen that killing him and his family is not the answer to his problems.\u00a0\u00a0 Walker, himself an ex-con, has no love loss for the cops, so much so he has all but disowned his own son who became one.\u00a0 Using this connective tissue, Walker hopes to reach Tully and resolve the volatile situation without interference by the police &#8211; and without harm to his family and friends. With race and rage fueled debates among the Walker family, we see how divisive the issues are between generations with perceptions of wisdom and patience sometimes taking a back seat to fear and false bravura.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-11.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-IgAcaueO\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-10769\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-11-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"supremacy - 1\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-11-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-11-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-11.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With a cast led by Danny Glover as Mr. Walker and Joe Anderson as Garrett Tully and buoyed by strong performances by Evan Ross, Derek Luke and Dawn Olivieri, by film\u2019s end we are as breathless and spent from the unfurling onslaught of emotion witnessed as are the characters.\u00a0 One of the best, if not the best performance of Glover\u2019s career, he is electrifying, encapsulating the mores of society and wisdom of experience\u00a0 with clarity of conviction.\u00a0\u00a0 As Tully, Anderson stuns with a vile intensity that breaks down with a slow burning understanding and compassion that comes with patience and time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-Derek-Luke-Joe-Anderson-Robin-Bobeau.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-IgAcaueO\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-10762\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-Derek-Luke-Joe-Anderson-Robin-Bobeau-400x264.png\" alt=\"supremacy - Derek Luke - Joe Anderson - Robin Bobeau\" width=\"400\" height=\"264\" srcset=\"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-Derek-Luke-Joe-Anderson-Robin-Bobeau-400x264.png 400w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-Derek-Luke-Joe-Anderson-Robin-Bobeau-300x198.png 300w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-Derek-Luke-Joe-Anderson-Robin-Bobeau.png 637w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Celebratory and significant with the lensing of SUPREMACY is that director Deon Taylor fought to shoot this on film.\u00a0 Despite all the technological advances today, there is a discernible difference between film and digital, one which here just fuels the emotional and visual grit and determination of the tonal\u00a0 bandwidth ever deeper.\u00a0 The ambient nature of film lends to an almost palpable and tangible emotional level, infusing the time and place and volatility of the supremacist psychology and battle with unspoken texture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-5.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-gallery-IgAcaueO\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-10757\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-5-400x172.png\" alt=\"supremacy - 5\" width=\"400\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-5-400x172.png 400w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-5-1024x441.png 1024w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-5-300x129.png 300w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/supremacy-5.png 1100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cinematographer Rodney Taylor uses light and lens to embolden the already powerful story, capturing and captivating with a visually visceral thread, and never moreso than in a climactic kitchen scene between Glover\u2019s Walker and Anderson\u2019s Tully.\u00a0 From fearful, claustrophobic situations in a closet to navigating the metaphoric hallways, corners and recesses of the Walker home, creating a different kind of choking emotional claustrophobia, Rodney Taylor brings a visual intensity to SUPREMACY that is heart-stopping.\u00a0 His lens is truly a window to the soul of the characters on the screen and into the conscience of each of us in the audience. Adams stays away from the media coverage of the story and the \u201coutside looking in\u201d, honing in on the POV of the hostages (the Walker family) and the activities unfolding behind the closed doors of the Walker house.\u00a0\u00a0 Adams and Taylor worked closely with the Walker family before and during production to not only be cognizant of their feelings, but to stay as close to the truth of the volatility of events unfolding inside the house and the emotional toll taken on, and found within, the victims.<\/p>\n<p>Powerful.\u00a0 Emotionally charged.
