Photo Courtesy of Broad Green Pictures.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Starring Elle Fanning, THE NEON DEMON is the story of \u00a0fresh-faced and virginal 16-year old Jesse, new to town with a life&#8217;s dream and ambition of a being a top model &#8211; no matter what the cost, Refn treats us to a visual and emotional spectacle built upon necrophilia, addiction, jealousy and envy, seedy rapists, the down and dirty cut-throat world of beauty and fashion, celebrating the unsavory, worshiping the the viciousness of beauty and the decline of morality. \u00a0THE NEON DEMON is a visual wonder, pushing the boundaries of morality and societal acceptance in this exploration of &#8220;vicious beauty.&#8221; \u00a0Described by Refn as a teenage horror film, there is a heightened reality that is both fueled by and devolves into something primal and instinctual, penetrating the mind, osmotically becoming a part of you. \u00a0Celebratory in its use of color with jeweled violets, turquoises and deep greens, cinematographer Natasha Braier incorporates geometry with rapier-edged framing for a Giallo-influenced experience. \u00a0 THE NEON DEMON perhaps more than Refn&#8217;s other films is indeed &#8220;an experience&#8221; with calculated reactions resulting from this sexualization of the world and obsession with beauty.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15868\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15868\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15868\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/neon-demon-2-400x225.jpeg\" alt=\"Elle Fanning in THE NEON DEMON\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/neon-demon-2-400x225.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/neon-demon-2-768x432.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/neon-demon-2-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/neon-demon-2-1400x788.jpeg 1400w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/neon-demon-2-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/neon-demon-2.jpeg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15868\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Elle Fanning in THE NEON DEMON<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Self-described by Martinez as a &#8220;three-headed monster&#8221; &#8211; Refn, three-time collaborator Martinez and six-time Refn editor Matthew Newman &#8211; have a synergy, or &#8220;incestuous&#8221; working relationship that defies description. \u00a0According to Refn, \u00a0&#8220;We\u2019re the first people who talk about what I would like to do and kind of the idea behind it or whatever kind of pop up in our conversations. \u00a0If I call up and say, &#8216;Hey Cliff, \u00a0I want to do a movie about women\u201d, he goes, &#8216;Okay&#8217;, and it becomes about musical inspirations. \u00a0I\u2019ll start writing the script. . . He reads the script [and] we talk about the script in terms of the musical point of view. \u00a0Then I start shooting.&#8221; \u00a0With THE NEON DEMON, Refn prepared a track list of music that would play on set, &#8220;music that would inspire the movie.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15869\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15869\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15869\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/neon-cliff-martinez-400x282.png\" alt=\"Cliff Martinez.
