{"id":1632,"date":"2014-06-18T09:46:45","date_gmt":"2014-06-18T16:46:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/moviesharkdeblore.com\/site\/?p=1632"},"modified":"2020-01-19T11:37:00","modified_gmt":"2020-01-19T19:37:00","slug":"inner-demons-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/reviews\/inner-demons-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"INNER DEMONS (2014)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>By: debbie lynn elias<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Making its world premiere at Los Angeles Film Festival 2014 as part of LA Muse category celebrating the fabric of Los Angeles is what will undoubtedly become a staple in the horror genre and on the horror fest circuit &#8211; INNER DEMONS.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Director Seth Grossman, working with a script by Glenn Gers, explores the world of intervention reality tv with a horror tinged mash-up of topical issues of insanity, drug addiction and, of course, demonic possession.\u00a0 Calling on his own background as director of eight episodes of the Emmy-winning \u201cIntervention\u201d, with INNER DEMONS, Grossman effectively and creatively uses the reality show format as the narrative structure, while focusing more on psychological horror as opposed to hack and slash.\u00a0 Making INNER DEMONS distinctive, Grossman goes beyond the typical reality formula by blurring the lines between a film crew\u2019s observation of the subjects and involvement in the familial relationships and dynamics.<\/p>\n<p>Carson is a straight-A student in a devoutly religious family.\u00a0 Unfortunately, she has become addicted turns to heroin and her parents, in an effort to \u201ccure\u201d her, agree to allow a reality tv crew to film a familial intervention and Carson\u2019s recovery.\u00a0 Escaping the notice of all but Jason, one of the tv crew members,\u00a0 Carson has turned to drugs as a means to deal with what she believes is an evil inside her.\u00a0 Agreeing to enter rehab and go \u201ccold turkey\u201d, although drug free, the demonic presence within Carson becomes stronger.\u00a0 While great for the tv show rating, it\u2019s not great for Carson or for Jason who is the one person who sees the truth beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Lara Vosburgh delivers a captivating and commanding performance while Morgan McClellan\u2019s Jason provides a sensitivity and grounding, serving as another lens for the audience.\u00a0 Judicious use of visual effects fuel the psychological complexities of characters and the fear and horror that is exposed while some true scare moments are balanced with a \u201cpushing the envelope\u201d satiric extreme of found footage and reality tv.<\/p>\n<p>With enough moments to scare the bejeebus out of you, INNER DEMONS is a welcome addition to the lo budget\/no budget genre.<\/p>\n<p>Directed by Seth Grossman<\/p>\n<p>Written by Glenn Gers<\/p>\n<p>Cast:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lara Vosburgh, Morgan McClellan, Colleen McGrann, Christopher Parker, Brian Flaherty, Kate Whitney, Richard Wilkenson, John Cragan, Susan Ateh, Ashley Sutton<\/p>\n<p>(Los Angeles Film Festival 2014 review)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By: debbie lynn elias Making its world premiere at Los Angeles Film Festival 2014 as part of LA Muse category celebrating the fabric of Los Angeles is what will undoubtedly become a staple in the horror genre and on the horror fest circuit &#8211; INNER DEMONS. &nbsp; Director Seth Grossman, working with a script by [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":414,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[36,9],"tags":[259,258],"class_list":["post-1632","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-movies","category-reviews","tag-horror-thriller","tag-inner-demons-2014"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.5 (Yoast SEO v27.5) -
