Sawyer Award (an Oscar<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>statuette) for technological contributions that have brought credit to the industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year we are happy to honor a very international group of technologists for their innovative and outstanding accomplishments,\u201d said Ray Feeney, Academy Award<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0recipient and chair of the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee. \u201cThese individuals have significantly contributed to the ongoing evolution of motion pictures, and their efforts continue to empower the creativity of our industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unlike other Academy Awards to be presented this year, achievements receiving Scientific and Technical Awards need not have been developed and introduced during 2017. \u00a0Rather, the achievements must demonstrate a proven record of contributing significant value to the process of making motion pictures.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5838\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/oscargold.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"495\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/oscargold.jpg 330w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/oscargold-247x300.jpg 247w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/oscargold-300x363.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 495px) 100vw, 495px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">The Academy Awards for scientific and technical achievements are:<\/h2>\n<p><b><u>TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS (ACADEMY CERTIFICATES)<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>To\u00a0<b>Jason Smith<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Jeff White<\/b>\u00a0for the original design, and to\u00a0<b>Rachel Rose<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Mike Jutan<\/b>\u00a0for the architecture and engineering, of the BlockParty procedural rigging system at Industrial Light &amp; Magic.<\/p>\n<p><i>BlockParty streamlines the rigging process through a comprehensive connection framework, a novel graphical user interface, and volumetric rig transfer, which has enabled ILM to build richly detailed and unique creatures while greatly improving artist productivity.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>To\u00a0<b>Joe Mancewicz<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Matt Derksen<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Hans Rijpkema<\/b>\u00a0for the design, architecture and implementation of the Rhythm &amp;
