Since inception in 1995, the Imagination Library has gifted more than\u00a0<strong>135 million<\/strong>\u00a0books to children and is currently gifting books to\u00a0<strong>1.5 million children<\/strong>\u00a0around the world each month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoodnight With Dolly\u201d will feature Dolly Parton reading a series of Imagination Library books all carefully chosen for their appropriate content at this moment in time. Dolly welcomes the viewers and introduces the title, author and illustrator. Snuggled in bed with her Imagination Library book, Dolly shares stories\u00a0that are just right for this moment in time. The readings will be a mixture of Dolly and the interior pages of the books.\u00a0 The books will include \u201cThere\u2019s a Hole in the Log on the Bottom of the Lake\u201d by Loren Long, \u201cLlama Llama Red Pajama\u201d by Anna Dewdney, \u201cI Am a Rainbow\u201d by Dolly Parton, \u201cPass It On\u201d by Sophy Henn, \u201cStand Tall Molly Lou Mellon\u201d by Patty Lovell, \u201cViolet the Pilot\u201d by Steve Breen, \u201cMax &amp; The Tag-Along Moon\u201d by Floyd Cooper , \u201cLast Stop on Market Street\u201d by Matt de la Pe\u00f1a, \u201cCoat of Many Colors\u201d by Dolly Parton, and of course, \u201cThe Little Engine That Could\u201d by Watty Piper.<\/p>\n<p>Once a week for\u00a0<strong>10 weeks at 7:00 PM EST<\/strong>, The Book Lady will deliver her story with the program available across the Imagination Library, Dolly Parton, World Choice Investments, and Dollywood channels.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The read alongs will be a personal gift from Dolly to all families. Free of charge but not free from obligation as the message will be to pass on the love and keep hope alive because we are all Together, You and I.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dolly Parton<\/strong>\u00a0said, \u201cThis is something I have been wanting to do for quite a while, but the timing never felt quite right.\u00a0 \u00a0I think it is pretty clear that now is the time to share a story and to share some love. It is an honor for me to share the incredible talent of these authors and illustrators. They make us smile, they make us laugh and they make us think.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the film\u2019s release, she adds, \u201cAlthough it was the right thing to do, postponing\u00a0the screening of our documentary\u00a0was a disappointment.\u00a0 So many of our Imagination Library affiliates had organized events around the nationwide screenings, however things do have a way of working out so the documentary will still have its day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>THE LIBRARY THAT DOLLY BUILT,<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0directed and produced by journalism professor and director of Land Grant Films\u00a0<strong>Nick Geidner,<\/strong>\u00a0and narrated by\u00a0<strong>Danica McKellar<\/strong>, goes behind the scenes of Dolly Parton\u2019s literacy-focused non-profit, Imagination Library, to show how one of the most famous and beloved performers in the world has developed an efficient and effective program for spreading the love of reading. Imagination Library started as a gift for the children in Dolly\u2019s hometown, Sevierville, Tennessee, and is now active in all 50 states, and 5 countries, gifting 1.5 million free, age-appropriate books to children every month. The film also provides a glimpse of the profound impact the Imagination Library has on the people through original interviews with authors, policymakers, Imagination Library staff, recipients, and the legend herself, Dolly Parton. Woven throughout the film is a biographical sketch of Dolly Parton, featuring rare photos and films from her childhood. Unlike most biographies of Dolly, it doesn\u2019t focus on her music. Instead, it demonstrates that at every point in her career, any time she has had success, Dolly Parton has come back to Sevierville to give back to her people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abramorama<\/strong>\u00a0commented, \u201cWe are thrilled to collaborate with Dolly Parton and the Imagination Library on the nationwide release this coming Fall, and to launch \u201cGoodnight with Dolly\u201d on the eve of the original theatrical event scheduled for New York City. It became such a success that in 2000 a national replication effort was underway. By 2003, Dolly Parton\u2019s Imagination Library had mailed one million books. Initial efforts focused on decreasing the dropout rate in the county\u2019s high school. In the early 90\u2019s Dolly promised every 7th-grade and 8th-grade student she would personally give them $500 if they graduated from high school. This effort, called the Buddy Program, reduced the dropout rate for these two classes from 35% to 6%. More importantly, the program catalyzed the community to provide additional resources to sustain this improvement in the dropout rate. In 2016, The Dollywood Foundation led Dolly&#8217;s efforts to assist families who lost their homes during the devastating wildfires which swept through her home county. The Foundation&#8217;s My People Fund distributed over $12,000,000 in direct assistance to over 900 families in Sevier County.
