{"id":2980,"date":"2014-01-13T11:28:28","date_gmt":"2014-01-13T19:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/moviesharkdeblore.com\/site\/?p=2980"},"modified":"2014-10-15T16:30:51","modified_gmt":"2014-10-15T23:30:51","slug":"the-past-le-passe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/reviews\/the-past-le-passe\/","title":{"rendered":"THE PAST ( Le Passe)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>By: debbie lynn elias<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2984\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/the-past-3.jpg\" alt=\"the past - 3\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/the-past-3.jpg 400w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/the-past-3-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With THE PAST, Iran\u2019s official submission for this year\u2019s Best Foreign Language Oscar, writer\/director Asghar Farhadi once again taps into the foibles of humanity and gives more credence to the well-oiled mantra \u201cthe best laid plans&#8230;\u201d As he so artfully shows, each of us is our own worst enemy.\u00a0 Thanks to intense and authentic performances and outstanding metaphorically telling production design, Farhadi and his characters make no apologies for their behaviors; they just live &#8211; and that is what touches each and every one of us.<\/p>\n<p>Returning to Paris from Tehran after a four year absence, Ahmad has one thing on his mind &#8211; finalize his divorce from estranged wife Marie so that she is free to marry her latest boyfriend Samir.\u00a0 Recognizing a twinge of sadness in Ahmad at ending this chapter of his life, more affecting is his relationship with Marie\u2019s children, especially Marie\u2019s rebellious teenage daughter Lucie.\u00a0 Motivated by a genuinely kind heart, through Ahmad\u2019s eyes secrets are exposed, truth and guilt bubble forth and as we so often see, the children pay for the actions of the adults.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2983\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/the-past-2.jpg\" alt=\"the past - 2\" width=\"400\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/the-past-2.jpg 400w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/the-past-2-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Written and directed by Farhadi, THE PAST packs a powerful emotional punch thanks in large part to the lack of sentimentality, especially with the performance of Berenice Bejo as Marie.\u00a0 While Bejo charmed us in \u201cThe Artist\u201d, here, she conveys the frustrations of woman wearing down from motherhood, a string of boyfriends and the inability to accept aging gracefully.
