{"id":3048,"date":"2013-12-01T17:07:09","date_gmt":"2013-12-02T01:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/moviesharkdeblore.com\/site\/?p=3048"},"modified":"2014-10-15T17:10:22","modified_gmt":"2014-10-16T00:10:22","slug":"the-hunger-games-catching-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/reviews\/the-hunger-games-catching-fire\/","title":{"rendered":"THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>By: debbie lynn elias<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Katniss Everdeen and company are back with THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE.\u00a0\u00a0 With this second installment in the YA franchise, now helmed by Frances Lawrence and written by Simon Beaufoy and Michael deBruyn, we catch up with the 74th Hunger Games victors, Katniss and Peeta on their return home to District 12.\u00a0\u00a0 The result is riveting action, thrills and suspense as CATCHING FIRE is fueled with a darkness that director Lawrence uses to best advantage.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3054\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/catching-fire-print-5.jpg\" alt=\"catching fire - print 5\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/catching-fire-print-5.jpg 400w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/catching-fire-print-5-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Panem is an even darker and more oppressive country than before the Games.\u00a0 The ever malevolent President Snow is less than pleased with the victorious tie between Katniss and Peeta thanks to their last minute suicide pact, an act which is now fueling uprising and rebellion among the Districts.<\/p>\n<p>Sensing dissension, Snow orders Katniss and Peeta to appear on a victory tour, to convince the populous of their undying love for each other and squelch thoughts of revolt, lest all those they love will die.\u00a0 But the victory tour falls flat and rather than quiet revolt, fuels it with Katniss being viewed as the symbolic Mockingjay.\u00a0 For Snow, that means only thing.\u00a0 Eliminate the problem completely but without making her a martyr.\u00a0 And thus, the Quarter Quell Games pitting prior victors against each other are to be held.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3051\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Catching-Fire-3.jpg\" alt=\"Catching Fire - 3\" width=\"400\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Catching-Fire-3.jpg 400w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Catching-Fire-3-300x187.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Delicious performances again come from Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks (who soars with texture and emotion beyond Effie Trinket\u2019s out-of-this world wardrobe and make-up), Woody Harrelson and, of course, Donald Sutherland.\u00a0 Harrelson also delivers some surprises with his performance and within his character of Haymitch Abernathy.\u00a0 Jennifer Lawrence secures her place as a star, with a deeper emotionally visceral performance.\u00a0 Disappointing is Liam Hemsworth who returns as Gale and again, falls emotionally flat while Josh Hutcherson\u2019s Peeta is an ambivalent mess.\u00a0 Standout is Philip Seymour Hoffman who brings a mysterious and welcoming ambiguity to new gamekeeper Plutarch Heavensbee.\u00a0 Also new to the franchise is Jena Malone who as Johanna Mason is dynamic exuberance while Jeffrey Wright, Amanda Plummer and Sam Claflin consistently add dimension and depth to the proceedings.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3053\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/catching-fire-print-4.png\" alt=\"catching fire -
