{"id":321,"date":"2014-09-09T22:32:53","date_gmt":"2014-09-10T05:32:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/moviesharkdeblore.com\/site\/?p=321"},"modified":"2014-10-07T22:34:13","modified_gmt":"2014-10-08T05:34:13","slug":"venezuela-names-the-liberator-as-its-academy-awards-submission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/events\/venezuela-names-the-liberator-as-its-academy-awards-submission\/","title":{"rendered":"Venezuela names THE LIBERATOR as its Academy Awards submission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ALBERTO ARVELO\u2019S<\/strong><strong><em> \u201cTHE LIBERATOR \u2013 LIBERTADOR\u201d <\/em><\/strong><strong>STARRING EDGAR RAMIREZ<\/strong> <strong>SELECTED AS VENEZUELA\u2019S SUBMISSION TO THIS YEAR\u2019S ACADEMY AWARDS<\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cohen Media Group to Release in North America on October 3rd<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Los Angeles, CA \u2013 Sept. 6, 2014<\/strong> \u2013 Director Alberto Arvelo\u2019s (<em>A House with a View of the Sea, Cyrano Fern\u00e1ndez<\/em>) <strong>The Liberator &#8211; Libertador<\/strong> a modern epic about the life of Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar starring Golden Globe and Emmy nominated Venezuelan actor Edgar Ram\u00edrez (<em>Point Break<\/em>, <em>Carlos, Zero Dark Thirty<\/em>) will be Venezuela&#8217;s submission for Best Foreign Language Film to this year&#8217;s Academy Awards.\u00a0 The film co-stars Spanish actress Mar\u00eda Valverde (<em>Melissa P.),<\/em> Danny Huston (<em>Magic City, X-Men Origins: Wolverine<\/em>), Imanol Arias (<em>El Lute<\/em>) and Gary Lewis (<em>Billy Elliot, Gangs of New York<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Cohen Media Group acquired the North American rights and will be releasing the film theatrically on Oct. 3rd.\u00a0 Mundial, IM Global\u2019s joint venture with Canana is handling international sales on<strong> The Liberator &#8211; Libertador.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The film was released in Venezuela on July 24 and has since attracted almost 600,000 spectators.\u00a0 The Venezuelan committee chose the film for it\u2019s: \u201cartistic and production value, staging\/realization, music and photography.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Cohen Media Group is incredibly proud to bring THE LIBERATOR \u2013 LIBERTADOR to North American audiences this October, starting in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, and other key markets. This elegant, powerful film explores the life of one of history&#8217;s great men, and we are thrilled to know it will be Venezuela&#8217;s submission for Best Foreign Language Film to this year&#8217;s Academy Awards,&#8221; said Charles S. Cohen, Chairman and CEO, Cohen Media Group.<\/p>\n<p>The Filmmakers said: &#8220;We are honored by the decision of the national committee for selecting <strong>The Liberator &#8211; Libertador <\/strong>in representation of Venezuela for the awards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This news is of great joy to all those that with great effort made this film possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Alberto\u2019s film is something incredibly unique and extraordinarily ambitious for South America, and for this reason has really resonated with foreign distributors since its inception. The film\u2019s performance in the local box office is truly remarkable and a sign of the success we expect internationally,\u201d said Mundial\u2019s Pablo Cruz.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Liberator &#8211; Libertador <\/strong>is a modern epic about the life of Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar (1783 \u2013 1830), who was instrumental in Latin America\u2019s struggle for independence from the Spanish Empire, and is today considered one of the most influential politicians and emancipators in American history.\u00a0\u00a0 The film is told from the viewpoint of Bol\u00edvar, featuring his quests and epic military campaigns, which covered twice the territory Alexander the Great conquered, and his vision to unify South America.<\/p>\n<p>The film is written by Timothy Sexton (<em>Children of Men<\/em>) and produced by Ana Loehnert, Winfried Hammacher and Alberto Arvelo. Co-producers include Jose Luis Escolar and executive producers are Edgar Ram\u00edrez and Maria A.
