(Los Angeles, CA \u2013 June 28, 2022)\u00a0 Earlier today, The Hollywood Critics Association<\/strong><\/a> (HCA) revealed its full list of nominees for the 5th Annual Hollywood Critics Association Midseason Awards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Each June the members of the Hollywood Critics Association come together to take a look back on the films released during the first half of the calendar year. During the second to last week of June, the members of the HCA vote on the films that they believe stood out as some of the best that the year had to offer so far.<\/p>\n

\u201c2022 was the first year since 2019 where theaters saw a true return to normal,\u201d notes HCA Founder, Scott Menzel. \u201cWhile the Sundance Film Festival remained virtual in 2022, other festivals, including SXSW and Cannes, returned to their in-person celebrations, which, as a result, attracted movie lovers from all over the world to return to film festivals.\u201d<\/p>\n

The box office has shown tremendous growth with films like Top Gun: Maverick<\/em> breaking box office records across the world while the indie sensation, Everything Everywhere All At Once<\/em>, became the highest-grossing A24 movie of all time. \u201cIn a year where audiences are returning to theaters, we couldn\u2019t be happier to be celebrating our never-ending love of film and this year\u2019s Midseason Awards nominees showcase a wide variety of films that include blockbusters and indie gems,\u201d adds HCA co-founder, Ashley Menzel.<\/p>\n

Leading the way with a total of eight nominations is The Daniels\u2019 Everything Everywhere All At Once<\/em>. The film, which had its World Premiere at the SXSW, has become a critic and audience favorite ever since its release in April. The film\u2019s nominations include Best Picture, Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh, and Best Director for The Daniels.<\/p>\n

Matt Reeves\u2019 The Batman<\/em> picked up five nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. Tom Cruise and the team behind the $1 billion+ box office juggernaut,\u00a0 Top Gun: Maverick<\/em>, were also nominated. The film received a total of four nominations, including a Best Actor nomination for Tom Cruise and a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Miles Teller.<\/p>\n

Even though “exclusively in theatres” returned in full force this year, several streaming titles received some love from the HCA as well.\u00a0 Films like Cha Cha Real Smooth, Good Luck To You, Leo Grande, Turning Red<\/em>, and Fresh<\/em> were all nominated.<\/p>\n
