Christian Gaines was born in Belgium, raised in the United Kingdom and now lives in the United States. Christian joined the American Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival in 1988 and was appointed Film Programmer at the Sundance Film Festival in 1994. From 1996 to 2000, he served as Festival Director and Director of Programming for the Hawaii International Film Festival, and after that served as Director of Festivals at the American Film Institute from 2000 – 2008. During this time, Christian ran AFI FEST presented by Audi, was key to the launch of SILVERDOCS: AFI\/Discovery Channel Documentary Festival and was instrumental in developing a strategic alliance with the American Film Market. Most recently, Christian joined the Withoutabox division of IMDb.com, focusing on festival strategy and business development.<\/p>\n

Elliott Kanbar has been the President of the QUAD MEDIA in New York and its affiliate QUAD CINEMA 4-WALL SELECT since its inception 38 years ago. The QUAD CINEMA is a pre-eminent theatre playing films from major indie distributors such as Sony Pictures Classics, Lionsgate, Miramax and Fox Searchlight to name a few. Kanbar now devotes his time assisting filmmakers without a distributor to get their films booked in major New York theatres and reviewed by major New York film critics. One of Manhattan\u2019s largest local magazines, \u201cNew York Resident\u201d included Kanbar in their list of one of the \u201cTop 100 New Yorkers Of The Year\u201d.<\/p>\n

Annie Roney is the founder of ro*co films international with 18 years of experience in the international distribution of feature documentaries.\u00a0\u00a0In addition to international distribution, ro*co has opened a new educational distribution division – ro*co films educational, and has partnered with OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network to create a Documentary Film Club. Marjan Safinia is an Iranian documentary filmmaker. Her first film,\u00a0But You Speak Such Good English\u00a0(UK), explores different aspects of the first generation Iranian immigrant experience from the insider\u2019s perspective and played at over 20 festivals internationally. Her feature debut,\u00a0Seeds, tells the story of ten brave teenagers from the world’s most troubled conflict zones coming together to live side-by-side for one life-changing summer in Maine.\u00a0Seeds\u00a0premiered as the Opening Night Film at SilverDocs and went onto play at over 50 international film festivals. Marjan is a well-known figure in the documentary community, and currently serves on the Executive Board of Directors of the International Documentary Association as well as co-hosting the pre-eminent documentary community online, The D-Word.<\/p>\n
