Ricky Gervais rocked it right out of the gate, taking no prisoners but seeming a bit tame for most of the night leaving some of the best lines to Madonna and George Clooney. The women dazzled…well, some of them. And the men? Besides looking handsome, suave and dapper,\u00a0as many admitted on the red carpet, they came to party. And party they did!<\/p>\n

As to be expected, Christopher Plummer began the “big” portion of the awards season with a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. Likewise, Octavia Spencer thrilled when she was named as Best Supporting Actress Motion Picture. And of course, HFPA favorite, George Clooney walked away with Best Motion Picture Actor – Drama for The Descendants<\/em> while the film itself was named Best Motion Picture – Drama.<\/p>\n

But surprises came with the diversity of the winners. Woody Allen picked up the Globe for Best Screenplay while Martin Scorsese won for Best Director for Hugo<\/em>. The Artist <\/em>grabbed three Globes of its four nominations and Uggie stole everyone’s heart as he trotted up on stage to help accept the award for Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. Meryl Streep beat out Viola Davis for Best Actress – Drama for her uncanny and indelible performance as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady <\/em>while Michelle Williams channeled Marilyn Monroe to win Best Actress Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, an award which Monroe herself won some 50 years ago. <\/em>Even Madonna picked up a Golden Globe, that being for Best Original Song for her film W.E.<\/em><\/p>\n

And while Ricky Gervais may have started the night with “beaver” and “penis” jokes, Clooney ended it with “Frontal Fassbender.”<\/p>\n

So who exactly won and lost? Let’s take a look at the complete list and start marking our ballots as the stage is set for some battles royale with the Academy Awards.<\/p>\n
