{"id":860,"date":"2014-02-24T11:10:40","date_gmt":"2014-02-24T19:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/moviesharkdeblore.com\/site\/?p=860"},"modified":"2014-10-11T11:15:56","modified_gmt":"2014-10-11T18:15:56","slug":"kevin-costner-when-is-enough-enough-with-stuntwork","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/interviews\/kevin-costner-when-is-enough-enough-with-stuntwork\/","title":{"rendered":"KEVIN COSTNER: When is Enough, Enough with Stuntwork?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>By: debbie lynn elias<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/movies\/movies_view.php?editid1=845\"><strong>3 DAYS TO KILL<\/strong><\/a>, the second of five of his films releasing in 2014, Kevin Costner is at the top of his game.\u00a0 He may worry about the body getting older, a little stiffer, but his acting is pure, rich.\u00a0 He is the master of deadpan self-deprecation of retort that zings you every time thanks to a look, a glance, a hanging of the head.\u00a0 On the whole, his performance both in the recent <em>Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit<\/em>\u00a0 and now 3 DAYS TO KILL bodes a maturity and comfort that still carries the glint of boyish exuberance we saw in <em>Bull Durham<\/em> or <a href=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/movies\/movies_view.php?editid1=507\"><strong><em>Swing Vote<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, while capturing the deliberateness and purpose of life that he brought to <em>Dances With Wolves, <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/movies\/movies_view.php?editid1=277\"><strong><em>Open Range<\/em><\/strong><\/a> or <em>Mr. Brooks<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-863\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/3-days-to-kill-7.jpg\" alt=\"3 days to kill - 7\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/3-days-to-kill-7.jpg 400w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/3-days-to-kill-7-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the key aspects of Costner\u2019s CIA operative Ethan Renner in <a href=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/movies\/movies_view.php?editid1=845\"><strong>3 DAYS TO KILL<\/strong><\/a> is the physicality of the role.\u00a0 As dynamic as the car chases are, equally riveting are the man-on-man showdowns between Costner and his adversaries.\u00a0 Although 59 years young, Costner is the first one to admit that the body is a little slower, a little achier.<\/p>\n<p>Shooting in Paris, one surprising factor that affected Costner\u2019s physicality was the weather.\u00a0 \u201cWell, you\u2019re cold.\u00a0 And anytime you\u2019re cold things are harder. [chuckling].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Known throughout his career not only for executing his own stunts and athletic endeavors, but doing so flawlessly (Remember <em>For Love of the Game<\/em> when he was pitching 88 mph?), at this stage of his career, is there a time when enough is enough and he steps aside from the action?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been involved in my stunt career and it used to be that my stunt guy, we would talk about it and about when it was time for him to take over.\u00a0 The way you know you\u2019re getting older, with my stunt guy, we\u2019d look at the thing and he goes, \u2018You could make it.\u2019\u00a0 I could tell he starts getting scared!\u00a0 \u2018You could make that.\u2019\u00a0 I said, \u2018I can\u2019t!\u2019\u00a0 It was an evolving thing.\u00a0 Fortunately I didn\u2019t have that over there [in Paris] because I had a new stunt guy, new stunt coordinator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Costner, now it\u2019s all about \u201cmeasuring things.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cListen, I wanted to ride with the buffalo.\u00a0 I wanted to do those things.\u00a0 Whenever you can put the audience in the car, on the horse, carrying your daughter &#8211; they\u2019re now in the movie.\u00a0 Stunts have always had their place.\u00a0 I have to measure \u2018em right now.\u00a0 I\u2019ve done things that if I make a mistake you could die.\u00a0 You really need to look at something like that.\u00a0 Usually it\u2019s a mechanical failure.\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t jump this [indicating the hollow square 3 feet wide between tables at the press day] right there to there if you could really die [going] straight down because weird things happen.\u00a0 I have gone from doing everything to listening; to say, \u2018Maybe you shouldn\u2019t do
