Travers, Emma Thompson is front and center commanding every scene in <a href=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/movies\/movies_view.php?editid1=828\">SAVING MR. BANKS<\/a>.\u00a0 Described by Thompson as being \u201cthe most extraordinary combination of things\u201d, Travers \u201cwasn\u2019t consistent in any way.\u00a0 You would not what you would get from one moment to the next.\u00a0 You could have had a very close moment with her on one day &#8211; and I got this from her friends &#8211; and then the next day, they might have gone to see her and she would have treated them as if. . .[she didn\u2019t want to be bothered].\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-911\" src=\"http:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/smb-02-400x225.png\" alt=\"smb-02\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/smb-02-400x225.png 400w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/smb-02-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/behindthelensonline.net\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/smb-02.png 834w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Helpful to Thompson in her research into Pamela Travers was the discovery that \u201cShe kept everything she wrote and sent it to the archives at Brisbane University.\u00a0 So she felt, I\u2019m certain, that she was an important contributor to the artistic, to the culture, and wanted to have it preserved.\u201d\u00a0 That preservation and sense of self-worth gave Thompson a wealth of material to work with, allowing her to delve into Travers\u2019 personality beyond the audio recordings of the 1961 meetings with Walt Disney, Don DaGradi and the Sherman Brothers.\u00a0 \u201cShe [her personality\/mind] went everywhere. . . She was like going into a maze.\u00a0 Round some corners, you\u2019d find this terrible monster.\u00a0 And round another corner you\u2019d find a sort of beaten child.\u00a0\u00a0 She was the most extraordinary combination of things.\u00a0 And I suppose that was the scary thing, because in films we often get to play people who are emotionally, or at least morally, consistent in some way.\u00a0 And she wasn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Keen to discover that \u201cP.L. Travers was so fascinated with myth, and was a searcher all her life\u201d, Thompson noted that \u201cthere was a spot of Zen mastery in the way in which she worked\u201d, something which was lovingly incorporated into the production design of Travers\u2019 London home in the film.<\/p>\n<p>An emotional balancing act to rival a chimney sweep dancing on the edge of a rooftop, Thompson embraces the emotional dichotomy of P.L.
