In Daniel Radcliffe\u2019s new film, the devilishly delicious HORNS from director Alexandre Aja, Radcliffe evokes memories of his parseltongue speaking days of \u201cHarry Potter\u201d where now,\u00a0 as the bereft and vengeance seeking Ig Perrish, he grows horns, carries a pitchfork instead of waving a wand, and still speaks to and commands legions of snakes, begging the question, what is it about Daniel Radcliffe and snakes?<\/p>\n

\"horns<\/a><\/p>\n

Although many will recall Radcliffe\u2019s iconic \u201cHarry Potter\u201d and Harry\u2019s ability to speak with CGI snakes, going into \u201cHorns\u201d where he would be performing with live snakes, Radcliffe himself was unsure whether or not he was comfortable with snakes and if he could work with them.\u00a0 It turns out he is and he can!\u00a0 \u201cThey were fantastic. . . It turns out I\u2019m extremely comfortable with snakes.\u00a0 I may have been completely projecting human emotions onto this creature [a highly profiled python], but I became completely convinced that she is very affectionate. . .We had one scene with 100 live snakes, which was awesome!\u201d<\/p>\n

During the course of filming \u201cHorns\u201d, Radcliffe became quite knowledgeable on the species.\u00a0 \u201cThey get cold.\u00a0 Snakes aren\u2019t cold-blooded. . .They\u2019re poikilothermic, which means they can\u2019t control their body temperature.\u00a0 So whatever temperature it is outside, they will be. They\u2019re freezing and you\u2019re already warm so they just love you and hug you, but in a constricting kind of way. [laughing]\u201d<\/p>\n

With that kind of love, however, how was it then to not only walk around with a python around one\u2019s neck and hundreds of other snakes wriggling at one\u2019s feet, but drive a car with the snake slithering about inside the car?\u00a0 For Radcliffe, \u201cThat was actually one of my favorite moments from any film that I\u2019ve ever done.\u00a0 We had this one shot in the movie where I\u2019m driving along,\u00a0 the snake is around my neck.\u00a0 I pull up, get out of the car, walk over to the cop car and do a scene with them.\u00a0 But I couldn\u2019t drive with the snake around my neck because the snake latches onto the gearstick and the steering wheel. . .[W]e had to have somebody in the back of the car who would put the snake around my neck before I got out.\u201d\u00a0 Pulling off the scene was no easy challenge given that a production assistant – not one of the snake wranglers on set – \u201chad to hide down in the back of the car with a python.\u00a0 I remember him getting into the back of the car with the snake and us getting into our first position and I just turned around to him and was like, \u2018I should probably tell him.\u2019 I was like, \u2018Corey, just so you know, I don\u2019t have a license.\u00a0 I don\u2019t drive.\u2019 And he was like, \u2018Oh that\u2019s fine.
