The 26th<\/sup> annual Palm Springs International Film Festival <\/strong>(PSIFF) will present Eddie Redmayne <\/strong>with the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor<\/strong> at its annual Awards Gala.\u00a0 Each year the festival selects an actor and actress to receive this award.\u00a0 Presented by Cartier, and hosted by Mary Hart, the Awards Gala will be held Saturday, January 3 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.\u00a0 The Festival runs January 2-12.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom The Good Shepherd<\/em> to Les Mis\u00e9rables,<\/em> Eddie Redmayne has proven himself an actor poised for greatness,\u201d says Harold Matzner, Chairman of the Palm Springs International Film Festival. \u201cIn The Theory of Everything<\/em>, as ALS-stricken scientist Stephen Hawking, Redmayne captivates his audience as he goes through a powerful physical transformation, from a healthy college student to a dependent wheelchair-bound middle-aged man, in what is truly a stunning performance. We are honored to recognize Eddie Redmayne with the 2015 Desert Palm Achievement Award for acting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Past actor recipients of the Desert Palm Achievement Award include Jeff Bridges, Bradley Cooper, Daniel Day-Lewis, Colin Firth, Sean Penn, Matthew McConaughey, and Brad Pitt.\u00a0 In the years they were honored, Bridges, Day-Lewis, McConaughey, and Penn went on to win the Academy Award\u00ae<\/sup> for Best Actor, while Cooper, Firth and Pitt received Oscar\u00ae <\/sup>nominations.<\/p>\n

The Theory of Everything<\/em> is the extraordinary and uplifting story of one of the world\u2019s greatest living minds, the renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, and of two people defying the steepest of odds through love. The Focus Features release, based on the memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, by Jane Hawking, is directed by Academy Award winner James Marsh (Man on Wire<\/em>). The film stars Redmayne, Felicity Jones, Charlie Cox, Emily Watson, Simon McBurney, and David Thewlis.<\/p>\n

Eddie Redmayne\u2019s film credits include Les Mis\u00e9rables,<\/em> My Week with Marilyn<\/em>, Savage Grace<\/em>, Elizabeth: The Golden Age<\/em>, Like Minds<\/em>, The Yellow Handkerchief<\/em>, The Other Boleyn Girl<\/em>, and The Good Shepherd<\/em>. His stage work includes Red<\/em> \u2013 for which he won a Tony Award \u2013 Richard II<\/em>, Now or Later<\/em>, and The Goat or Who is Sylvia. <\/em>His notable television credits include starring in the miniseries Birdsong<\/em>, Tess of the D\u2019Urbervilles<\/em>, The Pillars of the Earth<\/em>, and Elizabeth I<\/em>. Redmayne was nominated for BAFTA\u2019s Rising Star Award and he shared a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination with his fellow actors from Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/em> for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.<\/p>\n
