THE DEPUTY is ostensibly a crime thriller, complete with dead bodies, missing evidence, corruption and an increasingly desperate man trying to determine whom he can trust, but works best when viewed as a character study wrapped inside the trappings of a genre film.
Enchanting, charming, funny, sweet, and filled with an infectious sense of joy…THE FISHERMAN makes that journey with an abundance of humor, humanity and visual beauty, but above all, it leaves you with joy.
ORION is a riveting, intelligent, meticulously crafted psychological sci-fi thriller constructed with more detail and less information that creates the visual, aural, and thematic language of the film.
For ZOEY MARTINSON, the shifting relationship between young and old in a Ghanaian fishing village was something worth exploring. Somewhere inside those observations, THE FISHERMAN began to swim. And eventually, naturally, the fish started talking.
“It’s been nine years,” Perkash says of their partnership. “This is the first one we developed from scratch, from the beginning, from zero to realization.” For For Van Acker, that makes ORION “our baby.” And what a baby it is.
“The mantra in these movies has always been that we play it for real time, and after 90 minutes Scott [Adkins] can barely breathe because he’s been through so much. And just the culmination of him doing it twice and entering the third movie was that exact sense of, like, he needs to be absolutely knackered to complete his arc.”

As much as I always love the TCM Classic Film Festival Opening Night Red Carpet, the presentations in Club TCM in the Blossom Room (the site of the first Academy Awards) at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel are always a favorite of mine, and this year was no exception.
