A fun-filled exclusive interview with director BJ McDONNELL talking about bringing the thrills, chills, and laughter to life with Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters in STUDIO 666!
STUDIO 666 follows the story of Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters as they attempt to record their 10th album in a somewhat secluded and strange mansion. After Grohl discovers a mysterious tape from the previous band who recorded in the mansion (and who apparently didn’t live to tell about it), he slowly succumbs to malevolent spirits, with murder and mayhem becoming the watchwords of the day.
A perfect blend of old-school horror and practical in-camera effects with humor and the musical magic of Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters, STUDIO 666 is a high-energy “must see”.
Having made his feature directorial debut some years ago with the horror film Hatchet III, as well as helming several music videos for Slayer and others, BJ now returns to the narrative form with STUDIO 666.
Speaking with BJ McDONNELL in this exclusive interview, BJ talks about bringing his decades of experience as a camera operator to the table as director with the visual tonal bandwidth and visual construct of STUDIO 666, as he “breaks the mold” to create a film that is more visually interesting and fun. But STUDIO 666 is more than just the visuals, there’s also the key element of sound as “sound is a huge part of making horror films and you’ve got to have good sound design” and BJ dives into the importance of sound and the film’s sound design, plugging in “the scares of the high pitched screams in the right spots” while incorporating the music of Foo Fighters into the soundscape. From casting outside of Grohl and Foo Fighters to story and so much more, BJ McDONNELL covers it all.
