A fascinating, in-depth exclusive conversation with director TAHIR RANA and producer JULIA ROSENBERG discussing the “making of” CHARLOTTE, the history of Charlotte Salomon and her painting series, utilizing key images from Salomon’s work within the animation, color palette and differentiating between colors Salomon used in her actual paintings and the animated film, voicing, score, and so much more. An important piece of history brought to life thanks to the perseverance of producer Julia Rosenberg.
CHARLOTTE is an exquisitely told animated biographical drama film about German painter Charlotte Salomon, directed by Éric Warin and Tahir Rana. Inspired by Salomon’s autobiographical painting series, “Life? or Theatre?” and incorporating interpretations of some of Salomon’s own paintings and reflective imagery and complimentary color, this is an account of her life at the time the Nazi party had begun rounding up Jews and sending them to concentration camps.
CHARLOTTE features a star-studded voice cast that includes Keira Knightley, Brenda Blethyn, Jim Broadbent, Sam Claflin, Henry Czerny, Eddie Marsan, Helen McCrory (in her final appearance), Sophie Okonedo and Mark Strong.
