YAYA GOSSELIN talks with me again in this exclusive interview about HEART OF A CHAMPION, horses, barrel racing, leading a cast, horses (never enough talk about horses) and more!
Already a veteran at age 14 thanks to roles in “Peppermint”, “FBI: Most Wanted”, “We Can Be Heroes”, “Surfside”, “The Purge”, Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad Poets”, and more, if YAYA GOSSELIN isn’t already on your radar, she should be. She is one of the ones to watch over the next few decades. YAYA GOSSELIN has long been a favorite actor of mine and it’s always a joy to speak with her about any project she’s working on. This time it’s a film very close to her heart – HEART OF A CHAMPION.
A champion barrel racer and horsewoman in real life, it’s as if HEART OF A CHAMPION was written just for her as she plays – you guessed it – a girl desperate for her own horse who learns to barrel race. And YaYa does all of her own riding and barrel racing! Are you listening Taylor Sheridan?
Directed by Brad Keller with script by Lisa Chapman, along with YaYa HEART OF A CHAMPION stars Casper Van Dien, Edward Furlong, Carson Cunningham, Major Dodge Jr, Morgan Harrington, Jojo Marie, and a beautiful horse named Pepper as “Chengo”. A perfect film for the entire family!
Quite a few firsts for YaYa with this film, including being “the lead” and carrying the film given she is in about 95% of the frames, a first “puppy love” complete with a very cute anecdote about a potential first kiss, and how about balancing school, work, barrel racing, and everything else? And you don’t want to miss her imitation of Jen Landon in character as Teeter from “Yellowstone.” She talks about it all and more, including the latest on Robert Rodriguez’ sequel to “We Can Be Heroes”. What I genuinely love about YaYa is that her unbridled joy and enthusiasm for her craft, for her characters and films, and life in general comes through loud and clear.
